Can anyone tell me if there is a common reason for K1000 light meter problems. I can proceed stepwise but maybe somebody already knows of a common problem.

Check out Gordon Stalker's pentax site, www.mypentax.com. Has clear details on recalibrating a K1000 meter.

If the needle is ctr'd, then you have an open. Remove the bottom & check the black wire to the battery box as it sometimes come loose. Remove the 2 BBox screws & very carefully move the bbox to check. BBox is stainless steel & hard to solder but I've put a small dab of solder on the wire & flattened the solder so it can be pressed under a small "lip" on the back of the box. If thats not it, remove the top per the instr's on the above site & check the washered ground screw on the rewind side. Remove & clean it's area & the screw. Also check the black wire coming from the bbox. IIRC, there's another ground on the speed resistor.
