My Pentax MG is in trouble. The rapid wind lever can't be pulled to the full 180 degrees, only making it to 90 degrees. As such the shutter release button doesn't work. How fixable is this?

chances are that you have a broken piece that has caused the jam. It may be the detent spring for the lever. Once removed, the camera will function w/o it. If its anything else, you would need another camera for parts , new ones are NLA

We seem to have a similar problem with our pentax mg. How do we remove the backing of the camera to repair it?
